Thinking Back
I was born in 2006, and was fortunate enough to own a ton of consoles growing up, and through they years they've slowly either been sold, gotten lost, or are waiting to be recovered in an old box at my mums place.
To be honest, I think I grew up at the best point of gaming, or atleast comparing it to now, it felt like it back then. Playing the simpsons Hit & run on the playstation 2 on the neighbours kids playstation 2 is my earliest memory of the oldest console I played.
Some other games that hold a special place in my heart are: Little Big Planet 1 & 2, Skate 3, Minecraft Ps3 edition, Sega Megadrive Collection Ps3 Edition, Pokemon Moon, Sonic Generations, Sonic '06, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colour DS edition, and call of duty, specifically black ops 3.
The majority of those games released ~2009 to 2012, with the latest (Pokemon moon) releaseing around 2015. These were the games that really shaped my childhood, with the majority of them allowing for some sort of creative expression, which I seemed to lean towards. I never really understood the logic nodes while making levels in little big planet, however I did feel like a genius when I first used an and gate, and using the props to get up on roofs in skate 3, trying to immitate youtubers houses on minecraft, playing far too many sonic games, Looking back I was un-expectedly tought how to solve problems, thinking logically and litterally using logic gates.
The retro dream
I say its a dream, but its perfectly reasonable. I have a good chunk of retro consoles allready, however I am getting it piece by piece. Right now, I'm focusing on nintendo, and more specifically, pokemon. I watched a ton of the original indigo league pokemon anime growing up, it was just allways on tv. However, when I truly got into pokemon was during X/Y, getting packs, plushies, and eventually my own 3ds. I had a ds-lite for a while, and using that old chat function where you could draw on the little notes and send it into a local chatroom with your freinds was awesome, though we usually got bored after about 20 minutes.
So far, I've got two Ds Lites, that have both a DS slot and a gameboy advanced slot, one 3ds and a 3ds XL. I've also got a gameboy advanced, and a gameboy colour. It would be cool to fill out the collection with an original gameboy, and a gameboy SP to have each iteration of the gameboys, however my next focus is on the gamecube.
